Liquid Rhinoplasty
A few years ago, if you wanted to have smaller, smoother, or a straighter nose, you could either have a rhinoplasty or you could have rhinoplasty. There were no other options. Period. But bless the researchers who spend their days and nights on inventing procedures and then getting them approved from the FDA for none other than the masses. A few years ago, FDA approved the use of fillers to correct the asymmetries on the nose.

Nose being the centerpiece in the face gets a lot of attention as it is, and if the shape is somehow irregular, then people notice it, comment on it and makes the person feel uncomfortable. Liquid rhinoplasty involves using injectable fillers to correct the irregularity on the nose, instead of hacking off the tissues with knife. The best thing about rhinoplasty is that though the doctor is injecting filler into the nose, the illusion makes it look smaller and straighter. Secondly, the results of the procedure are subtle and natural but they are really there and make a difference.
Is it temporary or permanent?
Every ad or brochure on non-surgical rhinoplasty emphasize that it is a temporary procedure. But the fact is that it depends on the type of filler used and patient’s choice. The patients wants to test the waters first, then they can go for the temporary nose job using fillers made up of hyaluronic acid. If the patient does not like the results up to their liking, then they can simply inject the enzyme hyaluronidase, which will immediately break down the filler. If the patient want the filler to last for a longer period of time and still be temporary, then they can go for Radiesse. Radiesse is made up of calcium Hydroxylapatite and it lasts for about 18 months. There is another filler, which is made up of collagen and is known as Bellafill. Bellafill is traditionally used to fill out acne scars and the results of this filler last for many years. People who want to go for the permanent solution to their nose irregularities and avoid surgery, downtime and pain associated with it, then they can go for Bellafill. Bellafill requires three to four session to get the final results.
Is it completely risk free?
No procedure is completely risk free and least of all, injections. Nose is a very delicate area of the face and the blood supply is really weak. If a doctor injects a wrong amount of filler in the tip, it can shut off the blood supply and damage the vessels. Most of the patients do experience a little bit of swelling and bruising with the fillers and that’s normal. But if the fillers are handled incorrectly, abnormal amount of swelling, bruising and bleeding can occur. Therefore, patients should research the doctors and their credentials correctly before they book an appointment.
Is liquid rhinoplasty just for the nose bumps?
Actually, nose bumps are just one of the in corrections that can be treated with fillers. Fillers can also lift up a droopy nose, and can correct mildly crooked nose. What it can’t do is, make the nose smaller if it’s too big, thin the nose if it’s too broad, or a filler can’t help someone who has a broken nose. Only surgical rhinoplasty can treat these issues.
Is recovery easy?
If there was a pain scale for injectable, Botox would be at the very bottom of that scale by being the most painless procedure. However, the cheek injections would be at the very top because it burns a lot when the filler is being injected in. Lip job would lie somewhere in between the two because it does hurt but it’s not that bad. Nose job would be placed a bit above the Botox because nose is a very sensitive area. That’s why a doctor numbs the area with a local anesthetic cream before injecting in the filler. The nose will be swelled and bruised for a few days but that can be treated with ice packs and cleverly applied makeup. This is the reason it’s called a lunch time procedure. The procedure itself taken 15 to 20 minutes to perform and you can go right back to work after it.
